記載者については、基本的に論文中あるいは私信で明言のある場合につけていますが、今年は年内に公開された「Amphipod Newsletter 44（以下、AN44）」にて8月末までの新種がまとめられているため、こちらも参照しています。また、2020年にはクラゲノミの新種やワレカラの新属新種も記載されていますが、本稿では旧ヨコエビ亜目に含まれる分類群のみを対象としております。

2020年初の新種ヨコエビ記載は、恐らく本種です。パナマ湾の深部からヨロイヨコエビ属の1新種を記載。盲目種のようです。20mm程度の小型種のようで、記載図は一般的なヨコエビと同様に線画です。本文はタダで読めます。

ミトコンドリア遺伝子COIと16S rRNAを解析し，アカツカメクラヨコエビ P. akatsukai と同じクレードを形成したようです。本文は有料。

衝撃的な命名に震えました。ヨコエビの学名でここまで攻めたものは今まであまり記憶にありません。WWFが動画をツイートしたことでも，ネットで話題になりました。
本種はマリアナ海溝の水深 6,010～6,949m に設置したベイトトラップに捕獲されたもので，1個体の後腸内からポリエチレンテレフタレートに類似した繊維が発見されたことから「プラスティック」にちなんだ種小名がつけられました。マイクロプラスティック汚染が深海に及んでいることは以前から取り沙汰されており，浅海域も含めてヨコエビへの影響も研究されていましたが（Remy et al. 2015; Yardy et al. 2020），こうして人類が発見・命名する前の生物にも人類が排出した物質の影響が及んでいるのを目の当たりにすると，改めて思うところがあります。
記載にあたっては，形態に加えてミトコンドリア遺伝子の2領域（16S，COI）を解析しています。また，この論文は無料で読むことができます（2020年3月5日現在）。

ハマトビムシ科 Talitridae に1新属1新種を記載。20世紀初頭（1937～1938年）に南太平洋のトリスタンダクーニャにて採集され，Orchestia scutigerula Dana, 1852 とされていた標本を再検討したところ，未記載だったことが判明したとのこと。

以前から話題になっていた沈木性スンナリヨコエビ科に1新種を記載。各ニュースサイトに採り上げられて話題になりました．チンボクヨコエビ属との和名も提唱しています。熊野灘から採取し鳥羽水族館の水槽に展示していた沈木の中に棲んでいたのを発見されました。同属他種はだいたい水深1,000～5,000mの漸深層に生息しますが，本種は330～400mの比較的浅い深度から得られています。有り難いことに本文は無料で読めます。7属の検索表を提供。

なお、AN44 にて「悲しいことに本文は読んでないが新種の名前だけ判明している」として、この論文で記載された種を「Hyalella kaingang」「Hyalella xabriaba」と紹介していますが、前者は Bueno et al. (2013) で記載されており、後者は Bueno et al. (2013) の「xakriaba」を「xabriaba」と綴ったものとみられ、どちらも明らかに誤りです。

南西諸島から6種のドロソコエビ属（Grandidierella）を報告するとともに、4新種を記載。本土の種と類似した形態をした種も見つかっており、今後の分類学的研究に与える影響は大きそうです。G. gilesi Chilton, 1921 には ケアシドロソコエビ、G. halophila Wongkamhaeng, Pholpunthin & Azman, 2012 には ムネトゲドロソコエビ との和名を提唱しています。リンセツドロソコエビ G. contigua の和名および学名は、第1咬脚掌縁の歯の配列の様子に由来するとのことです。6種全てに対してオスの形態に基づく検索表を提供。本文は有料。

Aokiorchestia jajima Morino, 2020 ミナミオカトビムシ
森野 (1991) で紹介され、森野 (1999) や 森野 (2015) でも未記載のままだった「ミナミオカトビムシ」に、とうとう学名が与えられました。Platorchestia属の1種として扱われた期間が長かったものの、結局新属が建ちました。改めて線画を見ると Platorchestia や Morinoia とだいぶ趣が違うように感じられます。属名は『土壌動物検索図説』の監修者でもある日本の土壌生物学の権威・青木淳一博士に献名されています（※タイトルでは属名が「Aokiorcheestia」となっていますが、誤植です。下記の引用文献のところではこちらで修正をかけました）。種小名は、産地の一つである京都・舞鶴港に浮かぶ蛇島に由来します。

ペルシャ湾とオマーン湾から Pleonexes属 を報告。1新種を記載しています。新種 P. nargessi の第5～7胸脚は多少 Pleonexes属 っぽいものの、尾節板には鈎状の突起がないなど気になる要素がみられます（Pleonexes属の怪しさについてはこちら）。この論文では過去に報告された P. kava の形態の幅をマトリクスで示しつつ、新種の正当性を主張しています。さらに、Ampithoe qeshmensis Layeghi & Momtazi, 2018 を Pleonexes属 に移動させています。P. geshmensis は P. nargessi によく似ており、尾節板にこれといった突起はないものの、第5、6胸脚はやや把握器様の形状です。本文は有料。

北朝鮮と対面する最前線にあたる韓国の白翎島と大青島から、ヨコエビ属 Gammarus の1新種を記載。

背面にトゲの多い特徴的なテンロウヨコエビ属の1種を記載。これまで E. perdentatus と E. giganteus という2種が知られていましたが、それぞれに異なる遺伝的集団を内包していることが分かったとのことで、E. perdentatus から派生した1集団を別種として記載したとのことです。
というわけで、今年は8182種が記載されたようです。
なお、富川先生らがマリアナ海溝のSSF（蛇紋岩化した橄欖岩上に形成される化学合成生態系に特徴づけられる研究サイト）で得られた Princaxelia属 の新種をズーキーズで記載しそうな雰囲気がありましたが、12月30日現在、まだ御publishされていないようです。
